Texas law requires that charter school students take the same accountability tests as students in traditional public schools, the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness — or STAAR tests. These tests will begin in the last year of the Lower Elementary program, the equivalent of third grade, and are administered during the Spring months. The State’s testing schedule (as defined by grade) is as follows:
- Reading and Mathematics, grades 3–8.
- Writing, grades 4 and 7.
- Science, grades 5 and 8.
- Social Studies, grade 8.
These tests measure students' mastery of the TEKS — the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, the State learning standards for every grade and subject. Goodwater has meshed the TEKS with the Montessori curriculum so that children master the required content using Montessori materials and techniques.
Montessori teachers, called Guides, also will log students' daily progress into the online Montessori Records Express (MRX) system so that they fully know each child's most current individual progress. MRX records will also enable Guides to review children's progress with parents.
